Julian Riley, Senior Director
EUR ING Julian R Riley, B.Sc (Hons), C Eng, MICE, C.WEM, MCIWEM
Julian is a highly experienced Chartered Engineer with over 40 years’ in the Construction Industry as a Civil and Structural Consulting Engineer. Julian started his career in the Water Industry before setting up Plandescil. Julian’s experience includes Historic and Listed Building Repairs, Structural Surveys, Drainage and Infrastructure Design, Structural Steelwork, Environmental Assessments and Project Management. He has been responsible for the Design and Project Management of Civil and Structural Engineering Projects in the Commercial, Industrial, Marine and Nuclear Industries.
Simon Riley, Senior Director
B.Sc (Hons) CEng MICE
Simon is a Chartered Civil Engineer, He joined Plandescil in 1983 and now a vast range of experience in many areas including Structural Surveys, Historic Building Surveys, Remediation Strategies, Steel Framed Building Design, Reinforced Concrete Design and Masonry Structures. With his practical approach and extensive knowledge of the British Standards and Codes, Simon’s experience is invaluable to Clients and Staff.
Sara Riley, Senior Director
Sara Riley B.Sc (Hons), CPFA
Sara has been involved with running Plandescil for over 35 years. With a Science Degree including a module in Environmental Engineering, and a qualified Public Sector Accountant, she is well placed to look after Plandescil’s finances and provide Technical Support when required.
Ashley Briggs, Senior Structural Engineer - Director Structures
MEng (Hons), AMIMechE
Ashley joined Plandescil in 2005 as a gap year student before undertaking a Masters in Civil Engineering at Loughborough University. Whilst at University, Ashley worked in his holidays increasing his knowledge before returning to work full-time. Ashley has an extensive knowledge including full design/renovation and Project Management of Historic and Listed Buildings, Structural Design and repair of Steel, Timber and Masonry Buildings, Structural Surveys, Reinforced Concrete Design and Industrial Developments. Ashley is extremely dedicated and can often be found working around the clock to maintain Client satisfaction.
Carl Jenkins, Chartered Surveyor - Director Surveying
MRICS, MCInstCES, MICE
Carl has been with Plandescil for almost 25 years, predominantly working as a Surveyor. Carl joined the Company and trained as an Engineering Technician whilst undertaking his qualifications part-time, he then progressed into the Surveying Department which he has expanded since its inception so that it is now a team of Civil Engineering Surveyors of varying levels of qualification. Carl also has extensive experience in legal issues such as Land Ownership and Boundary Disputes.
Matt Hare, Civil Engineer - Director Infrastructure
B.Sc, IEng MIMechE, MICE
Matt joined the Company in 2004 after completing his A Levels. He studied part time for the next 6 years to achieve a degree in Civil Engineering. He specialises in Drainage and Flood Risk, with a wealth of knowledge in utilising Computer Modelling Programmes including MicroDrainage, AutoCAD 2D & Civil 3D, Causeway PDS, 1D and 2D Flood Modelling. Matt is predominantly working on Residential Developments, SUDS Schemes, Lagoon & Reservoir Designs, Remediating Existing Flooding and Drainage Issues, Flood Risk Assessments and Highways Drainage. He also has considerable experience in Highway Design.
Olly Jones, Project Manager - Director Projects
B.Sc (Hons), IEng MIET, EngTech MICE, GCInstCES, AMIMechE
Olly joined Plandescil in 2006 and has progressed through the Company, whilst completing his professional qualifications. Olly has specialised in Anaerobic Digestion Projects and Renewable Energy Plants, overseeing the Design, Tender, Construction and Project Management of a range of projects. The elements of the plants Olly is responsible for include: Silage Clamps, Drainage Solutions, Foundations, Containment Bunds, Tenders, Highway Works and Remediation of existing plants. Olly oversees work in numerous other sectors such as Residential Estates, Design and Build Packages, Planning Applications and 3D Modelling and most recently he has taken control and overseen the evolution of our Aerial Drone Surveys and GPR & Utilities Surveys.
Richard Simmons, Civil Engineer - Director Civils
BEng (Hons), MSc
Richard joined Plandescil in 2009 after working for another Civil & Structural Consultancy, whilst at Plandescil he has completed his Masters Degree. He has a wide range of experience across a variety of sectors including Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas, Marine & Waterways, Commercial and Industrial. Since joining, Richard has undertaken a wide range of work specialising in Civil and Structural Design including Project Management. With experience using all current BIM, Revit and other Structural Design packages, finite element analysis and Structural Reports for various Domestic, Commercial & Industrial Projects.
Sally Hare, Environmental Consultant - Director Environmental
B.Sc (Hons), CSci MIEnvSc, MCIWEM
Sally is a Chartered Scientist and came to Plandescil in 2007 following the completion of her degree in Environmental Earth Science. She began working as an Environmental Consultant and has progressed through to now managing the Environmental Team. Sally has extensive knowledge in Flood Risk Assessments, SUDS Schemes, Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Contaminated Land, Remediation Strategies and Flood Alleviation Schemes. Sally has worked for a wide range of Clients across the UK using a variety of programs such as 1D & 2D Flood Modelling, ArcGIS, MicroDrainage Suite and AutoCAD.
Matt Girling, Senior Setting-Out Engineer
B.Sc (Hons), TCInstCES, AssocRICS
Matt joined Plandescil in 2010 following a successful career as a Royal Marine Commando where his final position was a Corporal Assault Engineer. Matt has retrained as a Civil Engineering Surveyor, but applies his knowledge from his time in the Marines to his working life. Matt has worked on most applications of Land Surveying, Setting-Out, Cut and Fill Balance, Measured Building Surveys and has extensive knowledge of GNSS (GPS) equipment. Matt uses both AutoCAD and Magnet/CivilCad software. Matt is responsible for Setting-Out at Plandescil and has recently started to train other staff members to grow his team.
Matt Potter, Surveyor/Technician
Matt Potter joined our Surveying Department in early 2017 having been a Personal Trainer for 5 years. Matt completed a foundation degree in sports coaching in 2009. Matt assists our Senior Surveyors and Technicians and is currently undertaking a Civil Engineering BTEC Level 3 at City College Norwich.
Jemma Gooch-Boags, Environmental Consultant
BSc (Hons), PIEMA
Jemma joined Plandescil in 2014 having spent over 10 years working in the Industrial and Commercial Sector as an Environmental Manager for a large Food Manufacturing Company and a Waste Management Company. Jemma has a substantial amount of experience in Phase 1 and 2 Contamination Reports, Remediation Strategies, Environmental Management Systems, including BS EN ISO14001, Waste Management and Environmental Permitting. Jemma has undertaken Odour Acuity Assessment and is currently working towards being a chartered member of The Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA).
Chloe Spencer, Graduate Environmental Consultant
B.Sc (Hons) AMIEnvSc
Chloe joined Plandescil in 2017 having previously worked in Outdoor Environmental Education after completing her degree in Environmental Science with a year abroad at the Griffith University, Australia, in 2015. Chloe predominantly works on Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Designs, SuDS Schemes, and preparing reports with the senior members of the Environmental Team. Chloe is developing her computer modelling skills through the use of programmes such as MicroDrainage Suite and AutoCAD to aid her in the various projects she works on.
Prue Kahn, Arboricultural Technician
HNC, RFS Cert in ARB. (Theory)
Prue joined Plandescil in 2006 following a career in Graphics and working as a Print Manager for a Medical Company. Prue has always had a keen interest in design and horticulture and after obtaining her NCH at Easton Agricultural College she has been awarded two Royal Horticultural Society medals for show gardens she designed and created; a Silver Guilt at BBC Gardeners World and a Silver at Hampton Court Palace. Prue undertakes Tree Surveys to British Standard 5873;2012, Landscaping Plans and Maintenance programmes, Remedial Arboricultural Strategies and Garden Design.
Engineers & Technicians
Peter Morris, Project Engineer
Peter joined Plandescil in 2001 bringing with him a wealth of experience gained in and around the Civil Engineering Industry across the UK, including a large number of Grain Stores and Feed Mills on which he worked as the Designer and Project Manager. Peter predominantly works on Highways and Drainage Design as well as managing the Civil Engineering aspects for a number of local Housing Developers. Peter has a vast knowledge of Highways and Drainage including a good working relationship with the local highways and statutory authorities such as Norfolk County Council and Anglian Water. Peter has also worked on the design of a variety of specialist jobs including a Coach Depot, Hotel and Country Club, Railway Sidings and a Country Estates Private Village Drainage Scheme.
Jason Brook, Graduate Engineer
M.Sc., BEng (Hons), IEng MICE
Jason joined Plandescil 2015 coming with predominantly site-based experience in his early career and then working in a local Design Office for a large Contractor. His experience includes Drainage, Highways on a Local and National scale, Bridge Engineering, Structural Engineering and alterations to Domestic and Industrial Buildings. Jason’s experience of working in various roles across the Construction Industry means he brings a practical approach to his current position as a Structural Engineer. Jason also heads up the Company’s CDM Polices and Document Control, keeping the staff briefed and up-to-date on their duties and responsibilities.
John Brookes, Senior Technician Engineer
John joined Plandescil in 2014 and brings with him a wealth of experience in the Food, Waste and Process Industries. With over 30 years’ in the Construction and Process Industries, John has a wide range of skills including: Draughting, Health & Safety knowledge on site, Project Management, development of large scale projects from conception to hand over of As-Built, a problem solving attitude and an exceptional eye for detail. Since working for Plandescil John has mainly been involved with large scale Sub-Station Installation, AD Plants and large Industrial Building Projects.
Matthew Eastes, Senior Technician Engineer
Matt joined Plandescil in 2013, having previously worked for Local Authority and also a number of Private Sector Consultancy’s in Norfolk, Hampshire and Yorkshire. Matt has over 20 years’ experience in all disciplines of Civil Engineering, including AutoCAD, Reinforcement Detailing, Drainage Design, Ground Works Design, Steelwork Detailing, Infrastructure Draughting, Bridge Maintenance and Restoration and Maintenance of Historic Structures. Matt’s range of skills has allowed him to work for a number of different Clients and increase the range of disciplines he has already gained.
Rhys Williams, Senior Graduate Engineer
MSc, EngTech MICE MIMechE
Rhys joined the Company in 2012 having completed his HNC in Civil Engineering. Whilst working for Plandescil he completed his degree and is now working towards his Master in Civil Engineering. In the time he has been with the Company, he has progressed through from a Technician to an Engineer. Rhys has worked on a variety of Engineering Applications such as Domestic and Industrial Structural Design, Drainage Design and Specification, Structural Steel and Reinforced Concrete Detailing, and has recently completed the project co-ordination of a Waste to Energy Plant. Rhys now primarily works in the Infrastructure Department, specialising in residential developments.
Iain Crawford, Structural Technician
BSc (Hons), EngTech MICE
Iain joined Plandescil in 2012, from a Steel Fabrication Office where he was responsible for project co-ordination and procurement on a variety of steel fabrications and structures. He has built upon his knowledge of steelwork and structures, working on an array of projects that include Reinforced Concrete, Steel Framed Buildings, 3D Models and Building Revit Models for large projects. Iain completes Civil and Structural draughting works on a variety of projects including AD Plants, Marine Structures and Industrial Buildings. In 2017, Iain graduated from Suffolk University with a BSc Hons degree.
Ian Parrott, Senior Technician
Ian joined the Company in 1995 and began to work in an Admin Role, before becoming a member of the Surveying Team. More recently he has moved into a Senior Technician position working mainly on Residential Estates and Highway Projects. Ian has a wide range of experience and is able assist in a variety of situations.
Alex Fitzgerald, Senior Technician
HND, EngTech MICE, TMIET, MIMechE
Alex joined the Company in July 2014 following completion of his BTEC Level 3 in Construction & The Built Environment with a triple distinction* and the Outstanding Achievement Award in Construction at City College Norwich. He has since completed his HND which led to him being presented with City College Norwich’s Annual Award for Excellence. Alex has now started working towards his degree in Civil Engineering at University College Suffolk. Since joining the Company Alex has predominantly worked on Anaerobic Digestion Projects and Renewable Energy Plants and has shown himself to have an extensive AutoCAD knowledge and 3D Modelling expertise. More recently, he has developed his skills in earthworks modelling and has undertaken CAA training to become one of our drone pilots.
Nick Reardon, Graduate Engineer
Nick joined Plandescil in July 2016 following the completion of his degree at Coventry University. Nick has been working in both the Structural and Civil departments to build up his working knowledge. Nick’s primary focus is on structural design and is currently being trained by our in-house structural team. Nick is now back at Coventry University on block-release working towards his masters degree in Civil Engineering.
David Wilby, Graduate Engineer
David joined Plandescil in November 2017, having previously worked in an Engineering and Management role. David graduated from Newcastle University in 2011 with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a keen interest in Geotechnical Engineering. At Plandescil, David is working in the Structural and Civil Engineering departments to broaden his working knowledge.
Luke Squire, Utilities Surveyor/Technician
Luke is a former Personal Trainer and Gym Instructor who joined the Company in 2014 as part of the surveying team and has since been trained on AutoCAD to be multi-disciplined and a useful Technician. Luke’s Primary focus is on large projects and infrastructure design projects. In 2016, Luke became the first member of staff to undertake Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and utilities survey training and is now undertaking surveys on a regular basis. Luke completed his BTEC Level 3 in Construction & the Built Environment in 2017 and is now working towards a HND in Civil Engineering.
Joe Beales, Technician
Joe originally joined the Company on work experience whilst still at school and then continued to help during the summer and his school holidays. We employed Joe full-time on an apprenticeship, undertaking a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering, which he completed, and has now moved on to a HND. Joe has worked within all the teams at Plandescil and is progressing quickly into an enthusiastic Technician. Joe’s most recent area of interest is drones; he is quickly becoming the pilot of choice in the office since completing his CAA training.
Chris Hancock, Technician
Chris joined the Company in 2015 with previous experience of working in AutoCAD. Whilst at Plandescil, Chris has completed a BTEC Level 3 in Construction & The Built Environment. Chris’ current role is draughting assistance on the large Civil & Structural Projects, predominantly working with our Richard Simmons.
Peter Dickerson, Graduate Forensic Scientist & Environmental Techni
Peter joined the company in August 2016, having already completed a degree in Forensic Science he worked across a number of different jobs all linked to Science and Construction before deciding to retrain as a Civil Engineer. Peter has been enrolled onto the HND course at Norwich City College with the aim of progressing onto a degree to compete his retraining. Peter uses his skills from previous qualifications and jobs working in the Civil and Environmental teams, and has the ability to be able to turn his hand to any job given to him.
Trish Hayward, Senior Administrator
Trish has worked for Plandescil for over 30 years’ and has implemented most of the administration systems which Plandescil operates and originally was responsible for all admin related duties including accounts. Trish runs the Admin Office and her duties include Quality Assurance control checks of documentation and letters, thus ensuring the information the Administration Team produce is correct. Trish helps produce Structural Reports, Planning Application Documents and Engineering Design Documents, mainly working for the Company’s Senior Directors. Trish has an extensive knowledge of the Company and its Clients.
Wendy Burge, Accounts Department
Wendy joined Plandescil in 1999 and is responsible for the Accounts Department and invoicing of the company. All of the Company accounts, timesheets and invoices are produced and checked by Wendy before being issued to Clients. Wendy uses time recording software to track each job the company works on and also produces Financial Reports when required.
Lil Cossey, Project Assistant
Lil joined Plandescil in 2006 after completing her A-Levels as an Admin Assistant and moved on to be our front of house Receptionist. More recently Lil has been away on maternity leave and has returned part-time to assist the Directors with the administration they require for their projects. Lil has become an integral part of the Admin Team, with her knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Spreadsheets she helps to provide additional assistance to the Engineers.
Catherine Winslow, Admin Assistant and PA to Managing Director
Catherine most recently joined Plandescil in 2006 having had a previous spell with the Company before relocating for a career change. On her return she was employed as a PA to the Directors, helping them to organise their diaries and workloads. Now working alongside the Financial Director she organises the Company Vehicles, Staff Training, PPE and any Office Maintenance that is required as well as dealing with any other matters arising.
Jasmine Ayton, Project Assistant
Jasmine joined Plandescil in 2014 as an Admin Assistant following the completion of her A-Levels and quickly took on the role of helping the Engineering Directors. Jasmine is an extremely organised individual helping to keep the Directors files quality controlled and helping produce documentation, letters and emails. In recent months Jasmine has taken on the additional responsibility of helping the Office increase its social media exposure. She also currently completing her Level 3 Entrepreneurship NVQ.
Sheryl Stuart, Receptionist
Sheryl joined Plandescil in late 2015 having worked in a similar role at a legal firm. Initially, she took on the role of receptionist to cover maternity leave and has since stayed on permanently as our receptionist, answering the phone and greeting visitors. Sheryl also assists with Plandescil’s accounting and invoicing duties.
Ellie Aveston-Pallett, Office Junior
Ellie started at Plandescil towards the end of 2016 as our Office Junior. She maintains the company’s filing system, deals with the outgoing post, supports the Administration Team and assists the Engineers with various tasks.
