AD Plant, Chichester

Having worked with Farm Renewables previously, Plandescil took on the Civil Engineering Consultant role for the entire build of the project, following the site being obtained post-planning. The site is split into two construction projects; to the North are some state of the art Piggeries and to the South, an Anaerobic Digestion Plant.

The Pig Sheds had already started being constructed when we were instructed to start on design works. The Site was on a slope, with difficult levels and also bordering a drinking water protection zone, enforced by Portsmouth Water which runs through the middle of the site. The Site looks to utilise the use of pig muck and straw bedding in the process to make the most of its surrounding farm environment. With the difficult location and the on-farm waste being used, the site was required to have a bespoke permit and a very robust containment design. There were to be some lengthy discussions involving Portsmouth Water and the Environment Agency as they looked to ensure the site protected its surroundings and the sensitive drinking water protection zone.

Working alongside Farm Renewables, Carty O’Brien Contractors and various other Contractors and Process Providers, Plandescil designed Reinforced Concrete Containment, Digestate Lagoons, Silage Clamps, Access Road, Equipment Bases, Surface & Leachate Drainage and Steel Framed Structures to British Standard, Eurocodes and Environment Agency sign off. Whilst undertaking these roles, we also acted as Contract Administrators, SSAFO checking lists and CQA on the Containment Bund, Digestate Lagoons, Drainage Design and Silage Clamp installation.

Moving forward, Plandescil has designed a Steel Framed Waste Reception Building, Digestate Lagoon and Civils/Foundation Design for some Drying and Process Equipment.
