Platten's Fish & Chip Shop, The Quay, Wells-next-the-Sea
This project consisted of the renovation of three ground floor shops and the conversion of the first floor areas and roof void areas above in 6No. Holiday apartments, all within a Grade II Listed Building in a prominent location on Wells Quayside.
Although the original Planning Permission was gained by a local Architect, the nature of the scheme and the amount of repairs that were required meant that we had to agree revised planning proposals with the council.
The construction work was carried out in a number of phases during out of season periods in order that our client could keep running his businesses in peak times. The buildings were in particularly bad condition and there were many parts that could not be saved.
The most crucial part of the project was the renovation of the Fish and Chip Shop itself. There was a 4 month window to totally renovate the shop and building above, which meant a very tight programme for the builder. This part of the project was procured under a competitive tender basis and was completed on time and on budget.
